We live in a world where it’s so easy to judge people by what we see on the outside. We might look at someone and think, “Oh, he doesn’t pray as much as I do,” or “She doesn’t dress the way I think a Muslim should dress.” Sometimes, without even realizing it, we start to feel superior like we’re better than them.
But here’s the reality, Allah looks at our hearts and intentions, not just appearances. That person you looked down on could be struggling with sins but secretly crying every night in prayer, asking Allah for forgiveness. And that single sincere tear might weigh heavier with Allah than a thousand of our outward good deeds done with pride.
Think about it, how many times have we misjudged people in everyday life? Maybe that quiet colleague at work who doesn’t talk much… you think they’re cold, but in reality, they’re the one sending money every month to feed orphans. Or that neighbor you assumed doesn’t care about religion because they don’t show up at the mosque often yet, they might be privately waking up for Tahajjud when everyone else is asleep.
It’s humbling, isn’t it?
The Prophet ﷺ reminded us that a person may appear to people as if they’re doing well, but in Allah’s sight, they’re worthless. And another person may be dismissed by people, yet with Allah, they are greatly honored.
Because in the end, it’s not the “image” we build in the eyes of people that matters. It’s the sincerity of our hearts before Allah. The one you thought was behind may be the one entering Paradise long before you.
So think good thoughts. Keep doing good sincerely. And let your heart stay soft.
